A little review of the horror movies I watched in October for Halloween month!

The month started with a Flix and Chill cam session with a dear friend whom I love to joke he's going to be my next ex-husband. He picked his favorite horror movie for us to watch over dinner, and it was a lot of fun because I hadn't had the opportunity to watch it before! I love that after the movie ended, he also showed me on Youtube some cut scenes that really added depth to the story.

So my first Halloween movie of 2024 was...

- Halloween (2018)

It revives the Michake Myers franchise with nostalgia mixed with modern scares! We see the original protagonist, now an old lady, still haunted by the serial killer.

Jamie Lee Curtis gives an amazing performance, it's just so cool to see her growing movie after movie; worth the watch!

This movie put me on spooky-mode and I went to watch a few other and also record my own Haloween videos!

- Late Night with the Devil (2024)

An Australian movie that blends the "found footage" genre in a 70's talk show setting.

Imagine you are watching a show where the devil itself reincarnated on a tv medium! Very unique and fun, and the gore scenes are well done.

- Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

If you follow me for a while you know my fav movie genre is sci-fi, and this one didn't disappoint!

It's set in a space station and something goes very wrong, causing alternative realities.

It lacks of Godzillas though so watch with an open heart.

- The Platform 2 (2024)

Spanish movie, a very dark scenario of a self-administered vertical prison where a platform goes down with food, the lower you are, the lower the chance of having any food left.

This sequence explores the clash between a group with strict rules and others looking for freedom. Lots of metaphors, it's a bit confusing.

I like it, but I think they could have explained better or spent more time with the philosophical dilemmas.

- Men (2022)

It tells the story of a woman in an airbnb running away from the trauma of a bad relationship, and weird stuff happens.

The landscapes are beautiful in rural UK, but the movie itself is confusing and kind of boring. Honestly, I don't recommend it.

- My Best Friend's Exorcism (2022)

A very fun teenager horror-comedy about a group of girls in a Catholic high school. One of them starts to act weird, and they suspect it could be a demonic possession.

It's set in the 80's and the actresses are great!

Since I also went to a Catholic school, I could totally relate. Worth the watch.

- Talk to Me (2022)

It tells the story of a group of teenagers who can conjure spirits by using a magic embalmed hand.

At first, it's all fun and games, until they start to get careless...

This Australian movie stands out in many ways, with great effects and performance.

Easily the best horror movie I have seen this month! 11/10 Highly recommended!

- Run Sweetheart Run

A lawyer goes to a meeting with a client, and it ends up becoming a "cat and mouse" game. The charming man seems to be a supernatural creature eager to hunt the unsuspecting woman and her family.

The explanation in the end was a bit off to me, but there were lots of great slasher scenes and a good story overall. It was a fun experience!

- Black Box

A man loses his memory in a car accident that also killed his wife, he undergoes an experimental treatment to deal with the grief and to keep his child safe. The treatment, however, brings a lot more trouble than expected.

The main actor was great, the story is somewhat original, mixing drama with sci-fi and horror.

Great movie! Worth watching.

And during Halloween day, another amazing Flix and Chill session with my next ex-husband so we could watch the sequel.

- Halloween Kills (2021)

At the end of the franchise, the whole town gathers to hunt Michael Meyers, mixing scenes from the past with modern ones. A lot of the cast are also from the original movie, not only aie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis).

It's a fantastic slasher, and I highly recommend it!
